Phototherapy means ‘treatment with light’ and it has been used since the days of the ancient Egyptians when the sun was used to treat a variety of skin and health disorders. The Greeks also used light as treatment and called it heliotherapy. Red light has historically been used to treat the eruptive skin lesions of rubella as well as ‘melancholia’ which is now recognized as clinical depression. Red light also has a powerful effect on our cells by increasing the amount of energy in them. This allows the cell to perform optimally again (as it so easily did when it was younger). Near Infrared light has been proven to create change in the cells and is very effective in reducing inflammation as well as regenerating and repairing cells and tissues. Blue light can target and eliminate a certain type of bacteria that influences acne eruptions. Dermalux is a clinical device that uses all of these three lights (wavelengths) and can be used individually or all at once to treat multiple issues within the skin. Such concerns include:
- Photodamage
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Dullness & dehydration
- Psoriasis & eczema
- Rosacea
- Acne & post acne scarring
Phototherapy can be applied within a signature facial; as a single session to boost the skin pre-event or as a course to target concerns such as rosacea or acne specifically.
